Cheesy Pinto Beans

Beans do not have to be boring when you make these easy cheesy pinto beans. You can open a can of basic beans to serve with dinner, but why do that when you can add just a few simple ingredients to make them even better?

This recipe for pinto beans takes your basic can of refried beans to the next level. I love homemade refried beans, but I do not always have time to make them. Instead, I like to make canned refried beans even better.

By adding a few simple ingredients you can make canned refried beans taste homemade.

These beans are great served with tacos, but we also love to use them in burrito bowls, tacos, salads, or just simply on their own with tortilla chips.

Cheesy Pinto Beans on Stovetop

Ingredients

Four ingredients are all you need for this easy bean recipe.

  • canned refried beans
  • canned pinto beans
  • canned green chilies
  • cheddar or colby jack cheese

Can I make these in the microwave?

These beans can be heated in the microwave, but the flavors combine better when heated on the stovetop.

Can I make these beans in the slow cooker?

To make a large batch of these double or triple the recipe and then heat in the crock pot on low for 2-3 hours. Stir in cheese right before serving.

Cheesy Pinto Beans

A delicious side dish for taco night or for use in taco bowls, taco salad, and more.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 - 16 ounce can refried beans
  • 1- 16 ounce can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1- 4 ounce can of green chilies
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese ( colby jack cheese works too)

Instructions

  1. Combine refried beans, pinto beans, and green chilies in a pan.
  2. Heat over medium low heat, stirring occasionally, for about ten minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese.
  4. Serve as is or for tacos, taco salad, taco bowls, etc.
  5. See note below for crock pot and microwave version.
